Beijing, the capital of the People's Republic of China. The municipality is under the direct

administration of the Central People's Government. The city is the national political, cultural,

scientific and educational hub of the country, as well as a major stage for international activities.

As one of the renowned ancient capitals of the world, Beijing boasts over 100 cultural relics

and scenic spots. Beijing covers an area of 16,807.8 square kilometers and is located in the

southern part of the North China Plain, with the Shanxi and Inner Mongolian plateaus to the Bohai

Sea the east. Beijing has a population of over 11 million. Each of China's 56 nationalities is

represented in Beijing.

Tourist Attractions

The Great Wall at Badaling

the symbol of ancient Chinese civilization. It has a history of more than 2000 years.

It starts at Jianyuguan Pass in the west and ends at Shanhaiguan Pass in the east, s

tretching over 6,350 km and is the only man-made object visible from the moon.

The Badaling section, 75km north of Beijing, is the most representative.

 

The Ti’an Meng Square

a huge ceremonial parade ground of 40.5 hectares located in the center of the city, built

in 1651 and is the world's largest public square. Here are the Great Hall of the People,

the Monument to the People's Martyrs and the Memorial Hall of Chairman Mao Zedong.

 Summer Palace

where the Qing emperors lived in summer, constructed in 1888 by the Empress Dowager

Ci Xi. It occupies a vast park of 290 hectares, three quarters of which is covered by man-made

lake. It is the largest and the best preserved imperial garden in China.

The Imperial Palace

built from 1406-1420, the former residence of the Ming and Qing Dynasty (1406 - 1420) 24

emperors, which its name denotes the fact that only the royal family, ministers and

tribute-bearing ambassador were allowed inside. The palace is located in the center of

Beijing, which sprawls over a total area of more than 700,000 square meters. The various

buildings consists of more than 9,000 rooms and houses 1.05 million relics
